  • Bermuda grass (Cynodon dactylon) is a species characterized by great hardiness and strong competitiveness once established
  • It is a grass belonging to the group of warm-season (C4) plants, meaning those that benefit from high temperatures and long photoperiods (summer) thanks to high photosynthetic efficiency. In some cases, it is even considered a weed
  • It shows strong heat tolerance with low water requirements
  • It does not tolerate shady conditions
  • Its resistance to trampling is remarkable, but above all, its ability to colonize spaces through the development of lateral propagation organs such as stolons (“false” superficial stems) and rhizomes (“false” underground stems) is important. The spaces between nodes (internodes) are quite large, and the leaf texture is medium to coarse
  • The seeds, small in size, are coated to improve germination capacity and make sowing operations easier. Bermuda grass goes dormant with the arrival of the first autumn-winter frosts, taking on the characteristic yellow-straw color and halting the vast majority of metabolic processes

Soil
Loose, warm, soft, preferably well-aerated, with neutral to slightly alkaline pH.

Sowing period
From April to late August. The seed requires soil temperatures above 15-18 °C to allow optimal germination.

Recommended dosage
10-15 g/m², up to 18 g/m². Higher doses are recommended in case of late sowing and/or imperfect seedbed preparation.

Mowing
Perform the first cut when the turf reaches 3.5-4 cm, about 3-4 weeks after emergence, and immediately lower it to 3 cm. Once the lawn is mature, it can be cut down to 2-2.5 cm without problems. The lower the cutting height, the greater the maintenance demands

Nutrition
Phosphatic fertilization at sowing with Start Life. During the vegetative growth phase (late spring, summer, and early autumn), it is advisable to maintain an adequate nitrogen level to support plant metabolism with fertilizers such as Speed Green 20-5-10 or Hot Summer 35-0-0. The frequency of application varies depending on the type of use/cutting height maintained. Before entering dormancy (autumn), it is recommended to apply Cold Time 4-3-8 to withstand winter harshness and promote a quick spring restart. The same fertilizer is also very useful for the first vegetative awakening in spring

Irrigation
If an irrigation system is present at sowing, keep the soil constantly moist to avoid interrupting the germination process. Afterwards, the amount of water can be greatly reduced (depending on the type of use)

Biostimulation
Schedule at least 2 biostimulant treatments (Always, Pre-Stress, Power Liquid) between July and August to increase tolerance to heat and trampling.

Regeneration
This can be carried out in 2 different periods with 2 different purposes. Early to late autumn (depending on the area) to prevent yellowing and allow vegetative growth of the lawn, with an intervention using MACROSEEDING (a special formula based on selected and specific short-transition period ryegrasses for spring) at a dose between 40-50 and 80 g/m2 (the higher doses refer to technical overseeding). Or late spring (late April-June) with BERMUDAGRASS at a dose of 5-10 g/m2 to close any gaps created during winter. In any case, a verticut with removal of thatch and debris must always be performed before overseeding operations
